The Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) is the Third Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations. It was started in 1948 to help set global standards, protect human rights, and find ways to solve humanitarian and social issues. This means the committee has the authority to address issues related to refugees, children, and women as well as concepts including self-determination and racism. Human rights are often violated around the world. SOCHUM works to check these problems and establish worldwide standards to protect human rights by working together with countries. There are growing needs for help in many places like Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Congo. By working together with communities, governments, international groups, and supporters, we need to be ready not only to help but also to change the way we protect human rights. By coming together with kindness and action, we can help millions of people in need, changing sadness into hope and building strength against hard times. Let’s use this platform to discuss and turn today’s big problems into opportunities for making people stronger, safer and help build a better future for everyone.
