As the inaugural committee of the General Assembly, DISEC plays a crucial role in addressing urgent global issues and upholding international peace and security. Throughout its history, DISEC has tackled nuclear security, disarmament, small arms proliferation, counterterrorism, and the threat of biological weapons. Recognizing the evolving nature of global security, the committee emphasizes the need to adjust arms requirements to address the unique challenges faced by different regions. Inaction is not an option. We urge each delegate to strive for leadership and proactive engagement in addressing these challenges, advancing global peace and security.
We expect representatives from diverse backgrounds to be well-prepared for constructive discussions, debates, and presentations on achieving a "Nuclear Weapons-Free Southern Hemisphere and Adjacent Areas." It is vital to acknowledge the diversity of perspectives, as solutions that benefit one nation may not ensure safety or peace for another.
